Imagine Rio de Janeiro in the future - skyscrapers woven into the landscape, streets pulsating with culture, and communities using tech to shape the city in real-time.
March 18, 2025
That was the energy at the anitya + 2050 + newhack Workshop, an intense creative sprint where designers, coders, urbanists, and dreamers hacked together new visions of what Rio could become.
Over a whirlwind session, participants dove headfirst into anitya’s digital worldbuilding tools, fusing urban planning with storytelling.
The goal? To rethink city life beyond outdated models and explore fresh perspectives on mobility, sustainability, and culture. Some ideas felt like sci-fi, others were shockingly realistic. Either way, every project challenged the status quo.
By the end, three standout teams emerged, each presenting a vision so compelling that it left everyone questioning why the future couldn’t start right now.
Picture this: Rio’s forgotten alleys transformed into immersive soundscapes. Beco Sonoro reimagined neglected spaces as interactive cultural hubs where music and tech bring communities together. The city breathes, the walls hum with stories, and the sound of progress is more than just metaphorical.
What if living in Rio was a game you actually wanted to play? Game do Rio turned urban engagement into an interactive experience where residents solve challenges, collaborate, and actively shape their neighbourhoods through a gamified platform. Less red tape, more action—because city-building should be fun, not frustrating.
The baile funk scene is iconic, but what if it wasn’t bound by geography? Baile 2050 anitya envisioned a future where Rio’s party culture thrives in the metaverse, connecting dancers, DJs, and music lovers across the world. A digital dancefloor where local beats go global—without losing their roots.
The anitya + 2050 + newhack Workshop wasn’t just an exercise in speculation - it was a blueprint for how tech and creativity can reshape urban life. These projects weren’t about glassy smart cities or lifeless AI-driven urban plans. They were about keeping the soul of Rio alive while pushing it into new dimensions.
So, what happens next? That depends on who’s willing to build it. The future isn’t just something we wait for - it’s something we design. And from what we saw at this workshop and the capabilities of anitya, it’s looking pretty exciting.
